Mililani Town homeowners installing rooftop PV qualify for expedited permits under ROH Sec. 18-5.10; new homes must reserve capacity for a 5kW AC array.
Mililani Town's strong Central Oahu sun exposure makes rooftop solar one of the most popular home upgrades in Mililani Mauka and older Mililani tracts. ROH Sec. 18-5.10 provides expedited permitting for qualifying clean energy projects including residential PV up to 20 kW. Installations are also subject to ROH Chapter 16 (Building Code) and Chapter 17 (Electrical Code). The Honolulu Building Code Sec. R408 requires new single- and two-family dwellings to reserve roof space for a 5 kW AC PV system. Mililani owners should also submit architectural applications to the MTA in parallel with DPP, since most tracts require HOA design review for rooftop equipment.
Unpermitted installations can be red-tagged, require disconnection, and block Hawaiian Electric interconnection until permitting is cured with DPP.
