Dublin residents may post a No Solicitors or No Trespassing sign at their door. Commercial solicitors must honor the sign; violation is a separate offense. Political and religious canvassing also generally expected to honor posted notices.
Dublin Code protects residents who clearly post a No Solicitors, No Canvassing, or No Trespassing sign at the front door or driveway entrance. Commercial solicitors who knock at a posted address violate the solicitation ordinance regardless of whether they hold a permit. Political canvassers and religious proselytizers are not subject to permit requirements under the First Amendment (see Watchtower Bible v. Stratton, 2002) but are still expected to respect posted no-solicitation requests and may be cited for trespass if they persist after being asked to leave. The city maintains no central do-not-knock registry; signs are the enforcement mechanism.
Violation of posted no-solicitors sign: minor misdemeanor, up to 150 dollars. Persistent trespass after verbal warning: criminal trespass under ORC 2911.21.
