Little Elm, TX Swimming Pools & Spas: Above-Ground Pools (2026)

Above-ground pools in Little Elm are subject to the same building permit and safety requirements as in-ground pools. A building permit must be obtained before installation. The pool must comply with the 2018 International Residential Code Appendix G barrier requirements and TX Health and Safety Code Chapter 757. The pool wall itself may count toward the required 48-inch barrier height if the exterior surface has non-climbable construction with no horizontal rails, braces, or footholds that could facilitate climbing. Access ladders and steps must be removable or equipped with a lockable barrier when the pool is not in use. Electrical connections require GFCI protection and must meet NEC standards. The pool must be set back from property lines in accordance with the zoning district setback requirements under Chapter 106 of the Little Elm Code of Ordinances. Many Little Elm HOAs, particularly in master-planned communities, prohibit above-ground pools entirely through CC&R architectural standards.
