Full Breakdown
County code puts spas under the same Division 6 Swimming Pool and Spa Code as pools. On top of the state's Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act, Leon County requires a solid, approved barrier at least 48 inches high measured from the side facing away from the water, enclosing the spa completely enough to block unrestrained entry. Gates must self-close and self-latch, with the release mechanism at least 54 inches off the ground, and must swing outward away from the water. Design and installation otherwise follow the Florida Building Code.
Violations & Fines
Building inspectors enforce the barrier requirement through the permitting and inspection process for pool/spa installation; an uninspected or non-compliant barrier can hold up final approval and use of the spa.
