Connecticut requires residential pools to be enclosed by a barrier at least 4 feet high with self-closing, self-latching gates (CGS Β§19a-472a and the State Building Code). Danbury's building department enforces the barrier at permit and inspection.
The barrier requirement applies to in-ground and above-ground pools capable of holding more than 24 inches of water. Gates must open outward, away from the pool, and latch automatically. Many CT towns require 5 feet; the state minimum is 4 feet.
