Missouri City requires residential pool barriers at least 48 inches tall with self-closing, self-latching gates, no climbable openings wider than four inches, and compliance with the adopted International Swimming Pool and Spa Code provisions.
Through Chapter 14, Article VII, Missouri City adopts the ISPSC barrier provisions for residential pools and spas. Barriers must completely enclose the pool, measure a minimum of 48 inches in height on the side facing away from the pool, and have no openings exceeding four inches. Gates must open outward away from the pool with self-closing and self-latching hardware, and the latch must be at least 54 inches above grade. Chain-link fencing is restricted, and barriers must be at least 20 inches from the water's edge.
Barrier violations may result in citations, daily fines up to $500, and inability to obtain a final certificate of occupancy until the barrier is brought into compliance.
