Odessa requires all residential swimming pools to be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches high with self-closing, self-latching gates. This follows the International Residential Code and city building codes.
Pool barriers must be at least 48 inches high with no openings that would allow passage of a 4-inch sphere. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches placed at least 54 inches from the ground or on the pool side of the gate. The barrier must completely surround the pool. Existing pools must comply when sold or significantly renovated.
Non-compliant pool barriers can result in citations, fines, and orders to install proper fencing before the pool can be used.
