Pools must be enclosed by fencing meeting the adopted International Code Council standards (2024 series adopted May 2025, effective July 2025). The Illinois Private Swimming Pool Enclosure Act requires a minimum 42-inch barrier with self-closing, self-latching gates and no openings greater than 4 inches.
