Appendix G exempts spas/hot tubs from the pool-barrier rule when they have a cover meeting ASTM F1346. NY Executive Law Β§387(14) alarm requirement also exempts covered spas. Municipal building permits are typically required for hot tubs exceeding 24 inches of water depth or 100-gallon capacity β check your town code. Electrical GFCI protection is required by the National Electrical Code regardless of size.
