Under Sec. 74-32, containers must stay in good repair, sanitary, and lids kept closed against insects and animals. Carts go out within three feet of where the street meets the property (or in the street on steep lots). Within 24 hours of the scheduled pickup, owners must pull carts back to within three feet of the home or business. Rural residents outside a subdivision only need to move carts back at least ten feet from the street. This applies inside the City of Lafayette and the unincorporated rural parish, not Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, Youngsville or Milton.
