Bins placed curbside with lids facing the street, within 3 feet of the curb. Must not block sidewalks or hydrants. Retrieve by midnight on collection day.
Montgomery County DSWS guidelines require trash cans and recycling bins to be placed at the curb with lids facing the street for efficient collection. Bins should be within 3 feet of the curb edge but must not block sidewalks, mailboxes, fire hydrants, storm drains, or driveways. Leave at least 3 feet between containers for collection truck access. Bags of trash placed without a container must be securely tied and under 60 pounds. During windy or snowy conditions, containers should be weighed or secured to prevent them from blowing into the street. All containers must be retrieved from the curb by midnight on collection day and stored out of public view between collections. The county distributes blue recycling bins free of charge; replacements may be obtained at recycling drop-off centers or by calling MC311.
Containers left at the curb beyond midnight on collection day may result in a code enforcement warning. Containers blocking sidewalks or fire hydrants may be cited. Repeat offenders face fines.
