Prince William County, VA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 22-19(b) draws the line between routine curbside pickup and bulk disposal: ordinary rubbish, refuse, recycling and yard waste must go in the containers required by § 22-20, but 'items too large or otherwise incapable of being so stored until regular removal by refuse removers' have to be taken by the owner to the county landfill during its normal operating hours, or removed under a special arrangement between the owner and a refuse remover equipped to handle them. The county doesn't leave those disposal facilities unregulated: § 22-4(a) lets the county executive, with the health department and public works signing off, promulgate rules and regulations governing county solid waste disposal, and those rules 'have the force and effect of law' once posted at the disposal site.

Section 22-4(c) puts the board of county supervisors in charge of setting the fees residential users, noncommercial users, and commercial haulers pay to use those facilities. A copy of the current rules has to be posted in a conspicuous place at the disposal site and made available to anyone who asks. The same section makes clear this isn't a suggestion: a violation of the posted rules is treated as a violation of the County Code itself, on top of whatever civil penalty or suspension the rule itself provides.
