Beaufort County, SC Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 62-25 lists four categories of waste that curbside residential collection does not cover. Disposal of dead animals or household pets is the responsibility of the animal owner (subsection (1)). The county is not responsible for collecting or disposing of construction and demolition (C&D) debris once it exceeds household quantities (subsection (2)), nor discarded industrial or hazardous waste except in household quantities of household hazardous waste (subsection (3)); and waste generated by commercial tree cutters or surgeons must be disposed of by the person performing the work, or the owner who hired them, at their own expense (subsection (4)).

Bulky waste itself, defined in § 62-3 as oversized household items like furniture, white goods, lawn mowers and swing sets, is not on this exclusion list, so it remains part of ordinary residential rollcart or bin collection under § 62-22. Residents who need to self-haul excluded items can use county collection centers, which under § 62-31 cap loads to a pickup truck or utility trailer no larger than eight feet long, five feet wide, and 28 inches of inside height, bar loaded pickups towing loaded trailers, and limit residents to four tires and ten gallons of oil per visit; commercial waste and loads exceeding those limits must go to the landfill instead and are billed as commercial waste.

Section 62-27(d) additionally lets residents deliver household quantities of construction, demolition and land-clearing debris from their primary residence to collection centers under the facility's operating permit.
