Charlotte offers monthly curbside bulky item pickup for large household items including furniture, mattresses, and appliances (Freon removed). Mecklenburg County residents can also use four full-service recycling centers for bulk drop-off free with proof of residency.
Charlotte Solid Waste Services provides one bulky item collection per month on a schedule tied to the recycling week. Up to 8 cubic yards per collection; acceptable items include furniture, mattresses, carpeting (bundled), and large appliances (Freon certified removed). Electronics, tires, and hazardous waste are not accepted curbside. Mecklenburg County Recycling Centers at Foxhole, Compost Central, Hickory Grove, and North Mecklenburg accept bulk loads of recyclables, electronics, tires (limited), and yard waste. Foxhole Landfill accepts construction debris for a tipping fee.
Unscheduled bulk set-out or prohibited items result in a $50 tag-and-leave fine under Charlotte Code Chapter 10. Illegal dumping on public right-of-way is a misdemeanor under N.C.G.S. Β§14-399 with fines up to $1,000.
