Summary

All white goods and other bulky waste shall be placed for collection in accordance with the then-current LCG contract(s). If the contractor is not able to locate a scrap metal dealer who accepts large appliances and removes environmentally harmful substances such as freon and PCB oils from solid waste prior to disposal, then it shall be the responsibility of the owner of the residential unit to contract with a certified service provider to remove such substances before collection by the contractor.

Sec. 74-40 requires white goods and other bulky waste to be set out for collection under LCG's then-current contract. Bulky waste is defined at Sec. 74-1 as large appliances, furniture and similar oversized items that don't fit a standard solid-waste container and have no disposal route but a sanitary landfill: tires, construction debris, hazardous waste, stable matter and predominately-metal items are excluded. This chapter's 'service area' (Sec. 74-1) covers the City of Lafayette and the rural, unincorporated parish outside any municipality; Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, Youngsville and Milton run their own separate collection contracts, not this one.
Violations & Fines
General chapter penalty at Sec. 74-23(e): a fine of up to $1,000, up to 30 days imprisonment, or both, with each day a violation continues counted as a separate offense.
