San Joaquin County, CA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Residential franchise customers in unincorporated San Joaquin County receive 1 to 2 on-call bulk item pickups per year as part of the base service rate. Eligible items include couches, mattresses, up to 3 large appliances per pickup (refrigerant must be removed and tagged by a licensed technician per EPA Section 608), and tied bundles of yard waste up to 4 feet long. Electronics (e-waste), batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint, motor oil, and other household hazardous waste are NOT accepted at curbside — these must go to the county's North County HHW facility in Lodi or the Tracy HHW facility (free for residents, proof of residency required). Construction and demolition debris is never accepted in franchise bulk pickup; residents must self-haul to Foothill Sanitary Landfill (Linden), Forward Landfill (Manteca), or the Lovelace Transfer Station (Stockton). Illegal dumping on rural county roads, Delta levees, and agricultural parcels is a chronic problem — the Sheriff's Office and Public Works run hidden camera enforcement and offenders face felony charges for loads over 100 cubic yards or with hazardous content.
