Every single-family, duplex, or triplex Stockton household receives one free Clean Sweep bulky-item pickup per year (February through October) plus 12 free overflow stickers. Additional bulky-item pickups are available year-round for a fee through Waste Management or Republic Services.
The Clean Sweep Program is Stockton's annual cleanup for residents living in single-family homes, duplexes, or triplexes. It runs February through October each year. Customers receive one free bulky-waste pickup annually and must call their franchised hauler — Waste Management or Republic Services — at least two weeks in advance to schedule. Acceptable items include furniture, mattresses, appliances (with refrigerant removed), and bagged household debris piled neatly at the curb on the appointment date. Additionally, each subscribed household receives 12 free 'extra service' stickers per year to attach to bags of overflow trash that cannot fit in the gray cart on a normal collection day. Construction & demolition debris and industrial waste are NOT eligible for Clean Sweep and must be hauled by a City-permitted C&D hauler under the separate Construction, Demolition & Industrial Waste Hauling permit program. Additional paid bulky pickups can be arranged year-round directly with the hauler.
Setting out bulky items without a scheduled appointment, or before the night prior to the appointment, is illegal dumping under SMC 8.04.210 and subject to the $1,000 / $2,000 / $3,000 escalating fine schedule. Mixing construction debris into Clean Sweep piles is also a violation and the hauler will refuse pickup.
