Citrus County, FL Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Citrus County Code § 82-107(1) states that no collection shall occur on Sundays except during an emergency, and separately bars collection on county-designated holidays or other days on which the sanitary landfill is closed. Because the standard route pauses on those dates, the collector must notify every customer whose normal collection day falls on a holiday at least ten days before that holiday, telling them both that no service will run that day and the date of their next scheduled collection. This notice duty sits within the same 'hours and days of collection' subsection that fixes normal pickup hours under § 21-21(10) and lets the solid waste coordinator authorize collection outside those hours only for a documented emergency.

The holiday-shift rule applies to the certified residential collector serving unincorporated Citrus County; it does not govern collection inside Crystal River or Inverness, which run their own municipal schedules and may observe different holidays. Because the code ties the closure to whenever the county landfill itself is shut, a customer's actual makeup day can shift depending on the disposal facility's own holiday calendar as much as the calendar holiday itself, which is why the ten-day customer notice requirement exists in the ordinance.
