Wisconsin's littering law bans dumping solid waste on any public or private property. Ordinary dumping carries up to a $500 forfeiture (Wis. Stat. 287.81(2)); dumping a large item like an appliance, tire, or building debris carries up to $1,000.
Wis. Stat. 287.81 prohibits depositing or discharging solid waste on or along any highway, in the waters of the state, on the ice, or on any other public or private property. Standard littering may be penalized by a forfeiture of up to $500; throwing waste from a vehicle carries the same cap. Dumping a "large item" (appliance, furniture, tire, vehicle, boat, aircraft, building materials, or demolition waste) is a heavier violation of up to $1,000 under subsection (2m). Deposit schedules scale with volume. Placing waste in a designated receptacle is exempt.
Standard solid-waste dumping: forfeiture up to $500; large-item dumping: up to $1,000. Deposits scale by volume (roughly $50-$200).
