Burlington County, NJ Trash & Recycling: Illegal Dumping (2026)

Burlington County's Clean Communities office runs an illegal-dumping program focused on cleanup, education, and enforcement. The county's page states that "Litter, garbage bags, tires, televisions, electronic waste, appliances, yard waste, and construction debris" are being illegally dumped, and that "Public lands all over New Jersey are being used as dumping grounds," which "decreases property value, and costs the citizens of New Jersey tax dollars to cleanup." Residents can report sites using NJDEP's free smartphone app at stopdumping.nj.gov, or email cleancomm@co.burlington.nj.us. Penalties come from state law: under N.J.S.A. 13:1E-99.3, littering is a petty disorderly persons offense fined not less than $100 nor more than $500, with community-service pickup. Larger-scale illegal solid-waste dumping carries far steeper penalties under N.J.S.A.
