Summary
Implementing state SB 1383, Monterey County Code Chapter 10.45 applies only in the unincorporated area (§ 10.45.020) and requires every single-family household to subscribe to the County's organic waste collection service. Under § 10.45.040, residents must sort food scraps and yard trimmings into the green container, recyclables into the blue container, and everything else into the gray container.
Single-Family Organic Waste Generators shall comply with the following requirements: A.Subscribe to the County's organic waste collection services for all organic waste generated as described below in Subsection (B)... B.Participate in the County's organic waste collection service(s) by placing designated materials in designated containers. Generator shall not place prohibited container contaminants in collection containers. Generator shall place source separated green container organic waste, including food scraps, in the green container; source separated recyclable materials in the blue container; and gray container waste in the gray container. Generators shall not place materials designated for the gray container into the green container or blue container.
