Venice Code Ch. 54 (Solid Waste) requires every residential and commercial property in the city to use city solid-waste service or an authorized private hauler. Garbage is picked up twice per week; yard waste and recyclables once per week; carts must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on pickup day.
The City provides automated cart service to single-family residences. Each cart has a unique serial number tied to the address and remains property of the City of Venice. Residents must purchase a city cart if none is on the premises. Private haulers not on the approved list are in violation of Ch. 54. Public Works (941-486-2422) sets routes and handles cart requests.
Unauthorized private hauling is a violation of Ch. 54 with fines up to $500/day under Sec. 1-14. Trading or transporting city carts is also a violation. Repeat offenses may result in service suspension.
