El Dorado County, CA Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

540 requires property owners and tenants who want their recyclable materials collected by a franchisee to first separate those recyclables from non-recyclable waste, then deposit them in a recycling container that is either provided by the franchisee or permittee, or otherwise acceptable to and approved by the County. If the household uses a reusable recycling bin rather than a bag, the code requires that bin to be kept clean, sound and free of putrescible residue and non-recyclable waste. 540 supplies that standard instead. 550, which lets recycling containers be set at the curb no more than 12 hours before the normal collection time and requires them to be pulled back within 12 hours after pickup, or, alternatively, placed for yard service within 100 feet of a public thoroughfare by agreement with the hauler.
