Louisville Metro operates single-stream curbside recycling in the USD, collected every other week. Accepted: paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum, steel cans, plastics #1, #2, and #5. Plastic bags, food waste, and #3/#6/#7 plastics are rejected.
Louisville Metro single-stream curbside recycling β operated by Solid Waste Management Services under LMCO Chapter 51 β covers the Urban Services District with 95-gallon carts collected every other week. Accepted materials are paper, corrugated cardboard (flattened), glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, and rigid plastics numbered #1 (PET), #2 (HDPE), and #5 (PP). Plastic bags, plastic film, Styrofoam, plastics #3/#4/#6/#7, pizza boxes with grease, and food waste are contaminants. Contaminated carts are tagged and skipped; repeat contamination leads to cart removal. Multi-family properties with five or more units fall under separate commercial waste contracts; Metro Solid Waste does not provide recycling to apartment complexes directly. Drop-off recycling is available at all six Waste Reduction Centers and accepts additional materials (electronics, scrap metal, batteries).
Contaminated recycling cart: first offense tagged/skipped, repeat offenses $25 to $100 civil citation under LMCO Β§51.99. Commercial recycling violations: businesses cited under their hauling contract.
