In the Urban Services District, Louisville Metro requires bins placed curbside after 6 PM the day before pickup and retrieved within 24 hours after collection. Bins must be stored out of public view between pickups per LMCO Ch. 51.
Louisville Metro Solid Waste Management Services rules under LMCO Chapter 51 require Urban Services District residents to set trash and recycling carts curbside no earlier than 6 PM the day before the scheduled pickup and to retrieve them within 24 hours after collection. Carts must face the street with handles toward the house, lids closed, and be spaced at least 3 feet from obstacles (mailboxes, hydrants, parked cars). Between collection days, carts must be stored behind the front building line of the house β visible-from-street storage draws Codes & Regulations citations, especially in historic districts and traditional neighborhood form districts. In alley-pickup neighborhoods (parts of Old Louisville, Germantown, Portland), carts go to the alley apron on the morning of collection. Damaged or missing 95-gallon carts are replaced by Metro Public Works on request.
Carts out early or left at curb: LMCO Ch. 51 warning, then $25 to $100 civil citation from Codes & Regulations. Improperly stored carts visible from street: repeat citations. Overfilled or contaminated carts may be skipped by hauler.
