Louisville Metro offers monthly junk set-out for Urban Services District residents. Haul-It-Away scheduled pickup and six Metro drop-off recycling/yard waste sites accept bulky items. Hazardous waste goes to the Metro Hazardous Waste Collection Facility on Meriwether Ave.
Bulk item disposal in Louisville Metro is handled through several programs under LMCO Chapter 51. USD residents receive one monthly junk set-out day per route (same week each month), when furniture, mattresses, and large appliances can go curbside. Appliances with refrigerant (refrigerators, freezers, AC units) require the refrigerant tag removed by a certified technician per EPA Section 608. Louisville's Haul-It-Away program allows appointment-based curbside pickup of larger volumes for a fee. Six Metro Waste Reduction Centers (Lees Lane, East/Hubbards Lane, South/Outer Loop, Dixie, Shelbyville Road, and Jefferson Street) accept yard waste, bulky items, and recycling year-round. Hazardous waste (paint, solvents, pesticides, batteries) goes to the Louisville Metro Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 7501 Grade Lane. Construction and demolition debris is not accepted in standard bulk β contractors haul to licensed C&D landfills.
Illegal dumping under KRS Β§433.753: Class A misdemeanor, up to 12 months jail and $500 fine; aggravated dumping is a Class D felony. Putting bulk out on wrong week: LMCO Β§51.99 civil citation $50 to $500. Appliances with refrigerant intact refused at curb.
