Louisville Metro collects household bulky items through Project Pick Up, either an announcement-based week with no item cap or a scheduled appointment limited to four items.

The Department may provide for Announcement-Based and/or Appointment-Based systems for bulky waste collection as listed by the Department on Louisville Metro's website. Except as otherwise provided herein, there is no limit of the number of bulky items that may be set out for the Announcement-Based Large Item Collection System; there is a limit of four (4) bulky items per appointment that may be set out for the Appointment-Based Large Item Collection System. Specifications of items eligible for Project Pick Up collection are contained in subsection (2) of this section. All items must come from the household where they are set out.

(a)   In an Announcement-Based collection system, all bulky items must be set out no earlier than 4:00 p.m. the Friday before the announced Project Pick-Up Collection Week and no later than 6:00 a.m. on the Monday of the announced Project Pick-Up Collection Week.

(b)   In an Appointment-Based collection system, all bulky items must be set out no earlier than 4:00 p.m. the day before the collection appointment day and no later than 6:00 a.m. on the appointment collection day. Full Breakdown

Louisville Metro's Solid Waste & Recycling Department runs Project Pick Up for bulky household waste under two systems. Announcement-based collection has no limit on the number of items set out during the designated week. Appointment-based collection caps residents at four bulky items per appointment, no more than once a week. Construction debris, auto parts, boats, motorcycles, hazardous waste, 55-gallon drums, and Freon-containing appliances are barred from either system, and items must come from the household setting them out.

Violations & Fines

Setting out prohibited materials (construction debris, auto parts, hazardous waste, Freon appliances) or putting items out outside the allowed windows can leave them uncollected; the Director may deny pickup and require the resident to arrange separate disposal.

Frequently Asked Questions
