In the recycling service zone, single-family garbage service is bundled with weekly recycling collection. Haulers must collect newspaper, mixed paper, cardboard, metal cans, glass, and PETE #1 and HDPE #2 plastic bottles, and no more than five percent of collected recyclables may be landfilled.
SCC 7.42.040 sets recycling standards for haulers in unincorporated Snohomish County. All single-family garbage service in the recycling zone must include recycling collection, provided weekly. Haulers must collect properly prepared newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, metal food and beverage cans and clean aluminum foil, glass containers, PETE #1 plastic bottles, and HDPE #2 plastic bottles. Recycling containers must be supplied to single-family and multi-family customers. Processing must ensure no more than five percent by weight of collected source-separated recyclable and compostable material is landfilled, except in an emergency approved by the county council.
Service and diversion standards are enforced by the solid waste management division against certificated haulers; residents are not fined for recycling participation.
