Spokane County, WA Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

SCC 8.58.040(a) requires certified haulers to 'collect source separated, co-mingled recyclables from all eligible single-family residences,' with collection 'no less than every other week,' on the same weekday as garbage where the residence also gets garbage service. Eligible residences pay for the service whether or not they use it. Required materials (Exhibit B) include newspaper/magazines, cardboard, aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, and #1 and #2 plastic jugs and beverage containers; haulers may also collect mixed paper, glass, and other listed items. Multifamily premises (5+ units) get recycling on a subscription basis. No one but the certified hauler may collect set-out recyclables without the owner's consent.
