In order to provide for the health and welfare of Lafayette City-Parish residents, collection and disposal service for solid waste, yard waste and white goods is mandatory for all residential units located within the service area. Regularly scheduled collection and disposal service for solid waste, yard waste, white goods and recyclables must be with a contractor authorized by LCG to provide such service.

Every residential unit in the service area, the City of Lafayette plus the unincorporated "rural area" of the parish, must use LCG's authorized contractor for solid waste, yard waste, white goods and recyclables collection; residents can't sign a private hauler unless already paying for the weekly LCG service (§ 74-30). Recycling containers must stay closed against pests, be kept in repair, and be set within three feet of the street (ten feet in rural subdivisions) within 24 hours of pickup (§ 74-32). Scavenging recyclables from a curbside container is a separate offense (§ 74-41). Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, Youngsville and Milton run their own separate systems.
Violations & Fines
Removing recyclables from someone else's curbside container is a separate offense each time: $25 for a first conviction, $50 for a second, and $100 for each conviction after that (§ 74-41).
