Manatee County provides weekly single-stream recycling in county-issued carts, collected the same day as trash. Recyclables must be placed in county-approved containers with lids closed, within three feet of the curb, and never commingled with solid waste or yard waste.
Manatee County Code Chapter 2-16 requires program recyclables in the unincorporated county to be collected and removed by an authorized collector (Sec. 2-16-4). Recycling is single-stream: paper, cardboard, glass, and plastics go together in the county-provided cart, collected once per week. Under Sec. 2-16-39, residential program recyclables must be set out within three feet of the curb in county-approved, county-distributed containers with lids closed. Solid waste may not be commingled with recyclables (Sec. 2-16-31(b)); commingled loads will not be collected. Only designated recyclable materials may go in the recycling cart.
Placing non-recyclables in the recycling cart, or commingling recyclables with trash/yard waste, is a prohibited act (Secs. 2-16-39, 2-16-101); commingled loads are refused and violations are enforceable.
