Yard trimmings are recycled only during a 6-week spring window and a 2-week fall window; outside those dates they go to landfill as bulk. Trimmings must be in brown paper yard-waste bags or bundles (4 ft x 4 in, 40 lb max).
Per the City's Yard Trimmings Recycling page (cedarparktexas.gov/817), Republic Services recycles yard waste only during two annual windows: a six-week spring program (March 30 - May 8 for the 2026 season) and a two-week fall program. During these windows yard trimmings are picked up weekly on the regular trash day, in addition to the 7-item bulk limit. Outside the designated windows, yard waste counts toward the 7-item bulk allowance and is disposed of in a landfill rather than composted. Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in brown paper yard-waste bags - plastic bags will be diverted to trash, and wet bags will be skipped because of weight and breakage risk. Tree and shrub trimmings must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter, with bundles tied in rope or twine weighing no more than 40 pounds. Burning yard waste is prohibited under Article 18.10 (no on-site refuse burning except in compliant incinerators) and is further restricted under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality outdoor burning rules (30 TAC Β§111.219).
Yard waste in plastic bags or non-conforming bundles will not be collected. Sweeping or dumping clippings onto streets and sidewalks violates Sec. 8.06.006(b) and is fineable up to $2,000/day under Sec. 1.01.009. Burning yard waste in violation of Article 18.10 or TCEQ rules can trigger municipal citations and TCEQ enforcement.
