Title 22 mandates separate piping, signage, and certified site supervisors for nonpotable recycled water. Cross-connection control and annual training are enforced. Direct potable reuse projects are advancing under California State Water Board regulations adopted in 2024.
Cross-connection violations may halt service, require system disinfection, and trigger fines from the State Water Board and local retailer up to 25,000 dollars per day.
