LaPorte County, IN Animal Ordinances: Bird Protection (2026)

Chapter 93's natural-resources protections, carried forward from `88 Code § 4-29 (Ord. 90-15, passed 12-3-90), reach beyond plants and property into wildlife. 16(G)(1) states that no person within the confines of the park shall hunt, pursue with dogs, trap, or in any other way molest any wild bird or animal found within the confines of the park, or rob or molest any animal den or bird nest. The only exceptions are park property specifically posted as a hunting area, or a written, limited permit the Superintendent issues for the purpose of management, overabundance, disease, or inbreeding of wildlife species for balance control, so ordinary visitors cannot take matters into their own hands even if they believe a bird population needs thinning.

16(G)(2) gives the Superintendent separate authority to close park waters to fishing when advisable, with the closure posted at the site, and fishing in areas that remain open stays subject to state statute. 16(C)), rules that work together with the bird-nest protection to keep park habitat intact. 01, the bird protection applies specifically to county park land, not to private property elsewhere in unincorporated LaPorte County.
