Amarillo allows residents to keep fowl and livestock, but imposes minimum setback distances from neighboring residences. Fowl must be kept at least 100 feet from the nearest neighboring residence; livestock requires 200 feet.
Chapter 8-2 (Animals and Fowl), Article II governs wild animals and livestock. Fowl may be kept if enclosures are at least 100 feet from the closest point of any neighboring residence; between 100 and 200 feet a maximum of five fowl may be kept. Horses, mules, donkeys, cattle, hogs, sheep, goats, and other livestock may not be penned within 200 feet of any neighboring residence. All animals must be maintained in a sanitary manner. Animal Management & Welfare Officers enforce violations and may impound animals at large under Β§ 8-2-33.
Violators are subject to citation and fines. Animals found at large or kept in violation of setback rules may be impounded by Animal Management & Welfare Officers.
