Amarillo, TX Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Division 4 of Amarillo's parking article governs freight and passenger loading citywide. Under Sec. 16-3-242, the Traffic Engineer decides where curb loading zones go and must post upright signs marking them; painted yellow curb markings can back up the signs but are optional, used only when the Traffic Engineer judges them necessary. , and they shut off entirely on Sundays, so the ordinary citywide parking restrictions apply outside those windows. Section 16-3-243 makes clear the zones are not reserved for any one business: they're available to anyone with loading or unloading to do in the immediate vicinity, not just the adjoining property owner.

Section 16-3-244 tightens the purpose: a vehicle in a marked loading zone during operative hours can only be there for the immediate pickup, delivery, unloading, or loading of materials, not general parking, and the stop cannot exceed 15 minutes unless the Traffic Engineer has issued written permission for something longer. A separate provision, Sec. 16-3-245, lets the Traffic Engineer issue an annual permit allowing a business's delivery vehicle to back against the curb to load if that's reasonably necessary for the business and won't seriously interfere with traffic; six-wheeled articulated trucks backing in must turn the tractor portion parallel to the curb, headed with traffic. The Traffic Engineer can also reexamine and eliminate existing zones under Sec. 16-3-241 if they're creating hazards or slowing traffic.
