Fayetteville prohibits dogs and cats from running at large: they must be leashed, in an enclosure, or on a compliant trolley when off the owner's property. Chaining a dog to a fixed point is banned, and citywide microchipping is mandatory.
Under Chapter 92, an animal is at large whenever it is off the owner's premises and not controlled by leash, trolley system, or enclosure (Sec. 92.22, Sec. 92.01). At public events of 100 or more people, leashes max out at 6 feet with the dog kept within 4 feet of the handler. Fayetteville bans staking or chaining a dog to a fixed point (Sec. 92.02(F)); dogs must instead use a 100-square-foot (10x10) enclosure or an approved trolley run occupied only while the owner is home. Every dog and cat four months or older must have a registered RFID microchip (Sec. 92.20). Animals found at large are impounded.
At-large animals are impounded by Animal Services; redemption runs $10 to $200 by history plus $10 per day boarding. General Chapter 92 violations carry fines up to $500 (minimum $50) and up to $250 per day for continuing offenses.
