Anne Arundel County Code Article 12, Title 4 prohibits wild, exotic, and vicious animals as pets. Skunks, raccoons, and opossums are specifically prohibited. Ferrets, small rodents, birds, fish, and non-poisonous reptiles are permitted.
Under Anne Arundel County Code Article 12, Title 4, persons may not keep wild animals, exotic animals, or vicious animals as pets on their property. Specifically prohibited: skunks, raccoons, opossums, and wild-caught native wildlife. Maryland DNR also prohibits keeping most native wildlife as pets. Permitted without special licensing: ferrets, small domesticated rodents, rabbits, birds (non-protected species), fish, and non-poisonous reptiles (properly contained). Venomous reptiles require a dangerous animal permit. Livestock is regulated under Article 18-4-104 and requires minimum lot sizes.
Keeping prohibited animal: citation, confiscation, fine up to $500 per animal. Venomous reptile without permit: immediate confiscation.
