Under Anne Arundel County Code Article 12, Title 4 (which applies within Annapolis for animal control purposes), persons may not keep wild animals, exotic animals, or vicious animals as pets. Specifically prohibited: skunks, raccoons, opossums, and wild-caught native animals. Permitted without special licensing: small rodents, rabbits, ferrets, birds, fish, and non-poisonous reptiles (properly contained). Venomous reptiles require special dangerous animal permits. Enforcement is by Anne Arundel County Animal Services (410-222-8900).
