Round Rock follows Texas state law on dangerous wild animals. Big cats, bears, coyotes, and certain reptiles are prohibited as pets. The zoning code also restricts livestock in residential areas.
Texas Health & Safety Code Chapter 822, Subchapter E prohibits the possession of 'dangerous wild animals' including lions, tigers, ocelots, cheetahs, jaguars, pumas, coyotes, bears, and great apes as pets. Round Rock enforces this state prohibition. Additionally, the zoning code limits livestock (horses, goats, chickens, pigs) to properties of sufficient size in agricultural or large-lot residential zones. Exotic reptiles and venomous snakes may require notification of Animal Services. Permits from Texas Parks & Wildlife may be required for certain wildlife species.
Unlawful possession of dangerous wild animal: Class C misdemeanor under state law, fines up to $10,000. Animal may be seized and transferred.
