Cedar Park Code Article 2.01 prohibits ownership of "dangerous wild animals" within the city, including big cats, bears, primates, venomous reptiles, and large constricting snakes. State law (Tex. Health & Safety Code §822.101 et seq.) imposes additional registration and $100,000 liability insurance requirements where state-listed dangerous wild animals are otherwise permitted.
Under Cedar Park Code §2.01.001 (Definitions), a "dangerous wild animal" includes a lion, tiger, ocelot, cougar, leopard, cheetah, jaguar, bobcat, lynx, serval, caracal, hyena, bear, coyote, jackal, baboon, chimpanzee, orangutan, gorilla, or any hybrid thereof — plus all nonhuman primates; all four-legged mammals (other than dogs, cats, ferrets, gerbils, hamsters, mice, potbellied pigs, rabbits, and livestock); all venomous reptiles and amphibians of any size; constricting reptiles six (6) feet or more in length; all birds other than fowl and common household birds; alligators, bats, crocodiles, emus, and ostriches. Permitted household pets are limited to recognized domestic breeds of dogs and cats, birds, fish, gerbils, hamsters, nonpoisonous reptiles, and potbellied pigs. State law in Tex. Health & Safety Code §§822.101–.116 separately requires anyone keeping a state-listed dangerous wild animal to register with the local animal registration agency (in Cedar Park, the city Animal Control office), carry liability insurance of at least $100,000 per occurrence, and maintain a primary enclosure meeting state standards. Cedar Park's local prohibition is more restrictive than state law and effectively bans these animals citywide.
Class C misdemeanor under §1.01.009 — fine up to $500 per day, with each day a separate offense. Failure to register a state-listed dangerous wild animal is independently punishable under Tex. Health & Safety Code §822.113 (fine $200–$2,000 per day). Animal Control may impound the animal at owner's expense.
