Exotic pets in Palm Beach County are regulated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under FL §379. Class I wildlife (large cats, bears, great apes) are prohibited as personal pets; Class II requires a permit.
FWC issues Personal Pet permits for Class II species (cougars, alligators under 6 ft, monkeys) with caging and experience requirements. Reticulated pythons, green anacondas and other Conditional species are banned for personal possession after 2010. PBC Code §4-26 reinforces the state ban and prohibits keeping any wildlife capable of inflicting serious injury without an FWC permit. Releasing nonnative species is a first-degree misdemeanor under FL §379.231.
