The County Shelter shall provide rabies vaccination and certification, implant an electronic identification chip and enter registration in the appropriate electronic database, and spay or neuter dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens prior to adoption.
a. A person that adopts a dog, cat, puppy, or kitten from the County Shelter shall pay a fee of eighty dollars ($80) to the County Shelter. A person that adopts any other animal from the County Shelter shall pay a fee of forty dollars ($40) to the County Shelter.
b. The Director may reduce or waive adoption fees for two (2) planned, two (2) consecutive day adoption events in a twelve-month period. The Director may reduce or waive adoption fees for additional, consecutive day adoption events in a twelve-month period only under emergency circumstances. Emergency circumstances are defined as situations posing an immediate danger or threat to animal wellbeing.
c. Dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens may be spayed or neutered by a County Shelter veterinarian or by a veterinarian in private practice before transferring to a rescue organization.
d. Dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens transferred to a rescue organization from the County Shelter shall have an electronic identification chip implanted before transfer.
