Full Breakdown
The zoning code defines Animal Care Facility as any establishment providing care for domestic animals, including veterinary offices for treatment, convalescent boarding, grooming, and pet boarding, but not breeding facilities or kennels (§ 1204). Table 12-1 lists Animal Care Facility as a permitted use in the C-2, C-3, W-2, M-1 and M-MU zoning districts, and as a special use requiring Zoning Board of Review approval in the D-1 downtown district. Section 1202.B further requires exterior exercise areas to sit in the interior side or rear yard, overnight boarding to happen indoors, and all animal quarters and exercise areas to stay clean, dry and sanitary.
Violations & Fines
Operating outside a permitted or approved zoning district, or violating § 1202.B's exercise-area and indoor-boarding standards, is a zoning violation: up to $500 per offense under § 2100.D, with each day a separate offense.
