Grapevine prohibits intentional feeding of deer, coyotes, raccoons, and other wildlife that creates nuisance or safety hazards. Bird feeders and backyard wildlife habitat are allowed with good practices.
Grapevine's animal and nuisance provisions in Chapter 6 and Chapter 18 of the Code of Ordinances prohibit the intentional feeding of wildlife when that feeding creates a public nuisance, attracts predators, or increases the risk of human-wildlife conflict. Specifically, feeding deer, coyotes, raccoons, opossums, foxes, and skunks is prohibited in most residential areas because it habituates animals to humans and increases vehicle strike and disease risk. Grapevine has substantial urban wildlife including whitetail deer in the greenbelts around Grapevine Lake, coyotes that range throughout the city, and bobcats along the Cotton Belt corridor. Songbird feeders, hummingbird feeders, and properly designed butterfly gardens are allowed and encouraged. Feeders should be cleaned regularly to prevent disease and positioned to avoid attracting rodents or larger wildlife. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is the authority on statewide wildlife matters and can assist the city with nuisance wildlife. Violations are Class C misdemeanors with fines up to 500 dollars per day. Repeated violations creating significant nuisance can be referred to TPWD for enhanced state-level response.
Class C misdemeanor; up to 500 dollars per day. Repeated violations may trigger TPWD involvement.
