Linden, NJ Animal Ordinances: Wildlife Feeding (2026)

3 bars any person from feeding wildlife or domestic stray animals on any property, public or private, within Linden. 2 defines feed as giving, placing, exposing, depositing, distributing or scattering edible material with intent to feed, attract or entice wildlife or stray animals, excluding legal fishing or hunting bait, and defines wildlife broadly as all animals that are neither human nor domesticated, expressly including pigeons, waterfowl, feral cats, raccoons, skunks and groundhogs. The same section separately bars feeding or harboring stray animals and bars feeding privately owned animals in a way that creates unsanitary conditions, attracts vermin, or creates a public health nuisance.

4, which requires that the feeding not create an unreasonable disturbance to surrounding property owners, not cause droppings to accumulate on neighboring property, not attract rodents or other wild animals, and that feeders be enclosed and mounted at least four feet above the ground in a wildlife-deterring manner. 5 assigns enforcement to the Health Department, Police Department and Animal Control Officers, who can order a violator to stop feeding immediately. 1 of the Revised General Ordinance.
