Sedgwick County's animal code has no specific ban on feeding wildlife. However, feeding that draws animals and causes odors, insect or rodent infestations, or safety hazards on a property can be addressed under the general nuisance provisions. Wild animals are also regulated by Kansas wildlife law.
Chapter 5 does not contain a dedicated wildlife-feeding prohibition. The relevant lever is sec. 5-161(a), which defines a nuisance as maintaining animals "so as to cause discomfort to occupants of other premises by reason of offensive odors, insects or infestations, rodents, noise, nonconfinement or safety hazards." Feeding practices that attract rodents or wildlife and create these conditions can therefore be abated as a nuisance. Genuinely wild animals — taking, trapping or handling native wildlife — are governed statewide by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks under K.S.A. Chapter 32, which the county cruelty exceptions (sec. 5-191) expressly cross-reference. Confirm any city-specific feeding bans inside incorporated limits.
Feeding that creates a maintained nuisance (odors, rodents, insects, safety hazards) can be abated under chapter 5, with fines up to $500 fixed by the county court.
