Customer Traffic Restrictions

Las Vegas home occupations generally cannot receive customers on-site at all. Only a cottage food operation, cottage cosmetics operation, or licensed dog/cat breeding approved under a Home Occupation Permit may have walk-in customers, and even those are capped at two people on the property at any one time under LVMC 19.16.180(G)(1)(c).

Signage Rules

A Las Vegas Home Occupation Permit bans any signage identifying the business, on-site or off-site. LVMC 19.16.180(G)(1)(d) prohibits advertising the property's address or the existence of a home occupation by any medium; only a home phone number or PO box may be advertised, and only off the premises.

Home Daycare

Las Vegas lets a resident run a family day care for up to six children or dependent adults inside an ordinary home as a permitted 'Individual Care - Family Home' use under the Unified Development Code, with no Special Use Permit and no added parking beyond what the residence already provides. Care for seven to twelve people instead requires a Group Home Special Use Permit.

Zoning & Home Occupation Permits

Running a business from a Las Vegas home requires a discretionary Home Occupation Permit under LVMC 19.16.180 before any income-producing activity begins. The Director reviews each application against operational standards on employees, customers, floor area and vehicles, and can approve, condition or deny it. Tutoring and music lessons for two or fewer students at a time need no permit.
