Lafayette's Sign Regulations: The Rules That Matter

A hearing officer can fine the billboard owner up to $500.00 per offense, with each day of a noncompliant display counted as a separate offense, subject to appeal to the Fifteenth Judicial District Court.

Window Signs

Lafayette lets businesses cover up to half their window glass with signage before needing a sign permit. Sec. 89-90(b)(2)f of the Unified Development Code allows window signs without a permit, capping the combined area of all temporary and permanent window signs at no more than 50 percent of the total window area.

DPD can issue a notice of violation, and a hearing officer may fine the business up to $500.00 per offense, with continued display treated as a new offense each day, subject to appeal to the Fifteenth Judicial District Court.

Lafayette is more permissive than most cities when it comes to window signs. That said, there are still limits.
