How Rothschild Handles Trash & Recycling: A Practical Guide

Bin Placement Rules

Rothschild residents may not put garbage containers at the curb before the evening before collection day, and must pull them back within 24 hours after pickup. Between collections, Village Code Section 464-7 requires cans to be kept in as inconspicuous a spot as reasonably possible.

The Village or its hauler can also stop collecting from a noncompliant address.

Recycling Requirements

Rothschild requires every household and business to separate 17 categories of recyclables from the trash, from lead-acid batteries and waste oil to glass, paper, and rigid plastics. Village Code Section 464-16 lists the materials, adopted under the Village's authority to run a recycling program.

Any other violation of the recycling article, including failing to separate materials under Section 464-16, carries a forfeiture of not less than $10 nor more than $1,000 per violation, and citations are issued by the Rothschild Police Department.

Bulk Item Disposal

Rothschild does not curbside-collect bulky items like furniture and major appliances. Village Code Section 464-5 requires bulky materials to be broken down to fit inside your regular container, or hauled away yourself through a direct service provider or a drop-off at a solid waste facility.

Violating Article I of Chapter 464, including the bulky-materials rule, exposes a person to the general penalty in Village Code Section 1-2 plus the cost of any waste disposal the Village or its contractor has to perform to clean up noncompliant material, per Section 464-10. The Village or its contractor can also simply refuse further collection service to a household that will not comply with the container and disposal rules.

Yard Waste Collection

Rothschild does not collect yard waste curbside. Village Code Section 464-19 requires it to go to the designated Compost Site, imported yard waste from outside the Village is banned under Section 464-26, and Section 437-5 sets standards for backyard compost piles and holding bins.

Collection Schedule
